My friend and fellow blogger Lady Muffett stopped by for another walk today and we discovered these by the side of the road. I admit the Bearded Iris is not exactly a wildflower, but I don’t think anyone would have planted it there. Perhaps a bird planted it, long, long ago? Or perhaps there was some structure here once, that the flowers stood in front of and now only the flowers remain. In any case they were beautiful. So here is a bouquet for you.
It was a beautiful day to attend to things in the garden so the minute I could I ran off to Cottage Gardens of Petaluma. They have everything there you can think of and the actual nursery is so beautiful to walk around in you may never leave. But today I went there because they have such an amazing selection of pots and planters. I picked up several pots for roses, and then couldn’t resist buying an old rusty trellis and a pink climbing rose — Cecile Brunner — to plant against a green stucco wall behind the pool. When it blooms, I’ll be sure to blog it!
Then it was off to the Garden Valley Ranch which is a magnet for all rosarians. Virtually every rose you can think of is here, and many you may never heard of. Nothing is in bloom yet, but in a few weeks I’ll wander back and take some photos of some of the roses themselves. But I did pick up several David Austen roses I wanted and then took the time to wander about taking pictures of the grounds.
